Mastering Conflict Resolution: The Thomas-Kilmann Conflict Mode

Organizations are made of diverse people with differing opinions and competing interests making conflict inevitable. Handled poorly, conflict can have high costs in real dollars not to mention the real costs in relationship and low trust.   Handled well, conflict deepens relationships, improves organizational culture, and in turn business results.  Building the personal capacity to effectively deal with conflict is imperative to create healthy, wealthy, and productive workplaces. In this workshop, you will be introduced to Thomas-Kilmann’s five basic conflict-handling modes.   You learn the value of each mode and what your preferences are. The Thomas-Kilmann Conflict Mode Instrument (TKI) assesses an individual’s behavior in conflict situations—that is, situations in which the concerns of two people appear to be incompatible. In conflict situations, we can describe a person’s behavior along two basic dimensions*: (1) assertiveness, the extent to which the individual attempts to satisfy his or her own concerns, and (2) cooperativeness, the extent to which the individual attempts to satisfy the other person’s concerns. These two dimensions of behavior can be used to define five methods of dealing with conflict.  Discover your preferred style
